When considering the importance that social commitment currently has, the perspective of one of the fields of application within higher education institutions has been explored. In this context, the current situation of the Technical University of Machala was examined regarding Social Responsibility and Sustainable Consumption, performing functions related to teaching and research. A data collection was carried out that made it possible to prepare an evaluation of the deficiencies in knowledge regarding Social Responsibility and how this affects responsible consumption. The campus was then evaluated in terms of accountability, social knowledge management, and community participation, revealing an unsatisfactory level of knowledge. Regarding the issues of social responsibility and sustainable consumption, a limitation is observed in the results related to management and participation. However, scientific production, along with research programs and groups, focus mainly on issues linked to environmental conservation, social well-being and innovation. Despite gaps in understanding of social responsibility, participants showed a complete understanding of the environmental impacts resulting from sustainable consumption.
