ARAY ANDRADE, Carlos; GUERRERO ALCIVAR, Yandri; MONTENEGRO PALMA, Luis e NAVARRETE AMPUERO, Segundo. Superficiality in the teaching of trigonometry in high school and its impact on the learning of calculus at university level. ReHuSo [online]. 2020, vol.5, n.2, pp.68-76. Epub 02-Ago-2020. Abstract Trigonometry is an important branch of mathematics. Its richness, a product of the close relationship with other mathematical domains, the natural sciences and everyday life, encompasses several dimensions. In this context, the purpose of this article is to present the results obtained from the research carried out at the Technical University of Manabí to students to know their perception of the difficulties encountered in learning calculus at all levels (one and several variables) due to poor knowledge of flat and spherical trigonometry at the secondary level. The results show that the superficiality of teaching trigonometry in secondary education has caused a vacuum in the holistic knowledge of mathematics, which makes it difficult to teach subjects such as calculation of a variable, calculation of several variables, differential equations, linear algebra, descriptive geometry, physics, static and topography. The dexterity for the resolution of trigonometric identities develops a coherent deductive reasoning and because there exists this deficit in the average level this type of skills and not acquired skills make it difficult to solve exercises and calculation problems in the field higher education.
