Abstract

LUSARDI, Giada. The Cave I Live In Maureen Gubia. Índex [online]. 2023, n.16, pp.205-219. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.26807/cav.v9i16.555.

Maureen Gubia works from the confinement imposed by the pandemic in this artistic project. This circumptance leads her in revisiting and reinterpreting images of very close individuals. She represents her family, drawn and painted in numerous notebooks over nearly two decades, along with recent images derived from video call screenshots of relatives living in Canada and Chile. Gubia wonders what happens when a distant production is reinvented in time. In doing so, she discovers that she needs the inner strength, youthfulness, vitality, boldness, confidence, and defiance of those moments to navigate the complexity of the present. This text was written for the exhibition titled The Cave I Inhabit by Maureen Gubia, held in June and July of 2023 at Proyecto N.A.S.A.L in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
