INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Thematic issues and scope

Revista Politécnica is a quarterly periodic publication, edited by the Escuela Politécnica Nacional of Ecuador, whose objective is to contribute to scientific and technological knowledge, through the publication of scientific studies related to the areas of basic sciences (physics, chemistry and mathematics) and engineering (agroindustry, environmental, civil, electrical, electronics, geology, mechanics, oil, systems and chemistry). Revista Politécnica is aimed at professionals and researchers who work in these fields of knowledge.

Peer evaluation process

Arbitration system:

All articles must comply with a peer review, which consists of:

  • Review of the manuscript by two or three peer reviewers. Revista Politécnica currently has internal, external and international reviewers, who send the editor their evaluation of the article and their suggestions on how to improve it.
  • The editor gathers the comments and sends them to the author.
  • Based on the comments of the reviewers, the editor decides if the manuscript is published.
  • When an article receives both very positive and very negative evaluations, in order to break a tie, the editor may request additional evaluations, obviously to other reviewers. Another way of tie-breaking is that editors ask authors to respond to criticisms from reviewers in order to refute a bad evaluation. In those cases, the editor usually asks the reviewer to comment on the author's response.

All the evaluation is subject to a double-blind peer process; that is, the authors do not know who their reviewers are, nor the reviewers know the authors of the article.

  • Outside of scope: The articles received that pass to the review stage are only those within the scope of the journal.

The evaluation of articles is rated, based on the following parameters:

  • Reviewer's Experience
  • Article Novelty
  • Technical Content
  • Quality of the Presentation

The articles, after the peer review, can be cataloged in the system as:

  • Accept Submission: The article is accepted.
  • Revisions are needed: The article requires minor corrections before being accepted (form changes).
  • Forward for Review: The article requires major corrections to be accepted (changes of content or background).
  • Refuse Submission: The manuscript is rejected.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines:

  • The petition has not been previously published, nor it has been submitted to another journal (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The file sent is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format.
  • Web addresses were added to the references which have been possible.
  • The text has simple line spacing; the font size is 10 points; italics is used instead of underlining (except URLs); and all the illustrations, figures and tables are inside the text in the right place and not at the end of the whole.
  • • The text complies with the bibliographic and style requirements indicated in the Rules for authors, which can be found in "About the Journal".
  • • If you are submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, you need to make sure that the instructions in Ensuring a blind review have been followed.
