ABOUT THE JOURNAL

 

Focus and scope

Revista Andina de Educación is a scientific publication in the field of Education of Universidad Andina Simon Bolivar, Sede Ecuador. The journal approaches historical analysis, contemporary issues, and future developments related to education in its different settings and levels. It aims to constitute a space for debate, a vehicle for academic presentation, and dissemination of theoretical and applied contributions by broadly tackling innovative implementations in diverse educational scenarios.

Among the promoted lines of research are investigation and evaluation methodologies in education; public policies in education and training; the evolution and history of educational systems; educational reforms and innovations; educational quality and equity; attention to diversity; intercultural studies; cultural and educational studies; curricula; teaching methods; educational organization and management; educational orientation and tutoring; and teacher professional development.

Revista Andina de Educación has four sections: Research, Essays, Experiencies and Reviews. The research section collects complete reports of original research works. The essay section contains review articles, consisting of a broad summary of the research on a certain topic, a perspective on the state and prospects of the scientific field, and reflection work on a specific scientific topic. The experiences section collects case study reports on educational phenomena of interest that have been experienced in specific contexts and offer the keys for their replication, as well as articles presenting a new experimental method, test, or procedure. Finally, the reviews section contains the review of works of interest in education and educational research. Only original collaborations that have not been published under any medium are accepted in all sections. Blind pairs evaluate the articles sent to the different sections. The journal receives papers in Spanish, Portuguese, and English.

 

Coverage and audience

The Andean Journal of Education is a specialized publication aimed at teachers, researchers, students, and professionals in the field of Education or related areas, interested in pedagogical knowledge and education. The journal is disseminated nationally and internationally through various databases. ;

 

Publication frequency

Revista Andina de Educación is published electronically twice per year in May and November. However, in order to make the presented works available immediately, they will be published in the next issue after being accepted.

 

Peer-review process

All the articles (research, experiences and essays) that comply with the formal requirements and scope stipulated by the Revista Andina de Educación will be sent to each issue’s edition coordinators who will conduct at least two double-blind external evaluations, requesting additional reviews in cases where it is considered necessary. The manuscripts will circulate anonymously.

The editors and the Editorial team will know the result of this evaluation. The evaluation criteria include originality, relevance of the issue, adequate problem formulation, ample theoretical or conceptual discussion, appropriate use of analysis methods, clear presentation of the results, and the bibliography’s relevance. Also, the good use of language, clarity, and expositional rigor will be evaluated.

The journal reserves the right to accept or reject the sent articles, essays, and reviews; the last decision corresponds to the issue's editor. Their publication can also be delayed on a case by case basis upon notification from the author.

The evaluation process of an article takes 4 weeks on average.

 

 

Free publication process

No payment is required in any of the revision and editing phases. Article publication Revista Andina de Educación is totally free.

The Andean Journal of Education is funded by the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Ecuador.

 

Open access policy

LThe Andean Journal of Education maintains its commitment to Open Access policies for scientific information, considering that scientific publications and research financed with public funds should circulate freely on the internet, free of charge, and without restrictions.

All the published articles in Revista Andina de Educación are open access. Anyone can download, copy, and use the article under the Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC 4.0).

 

Journal history

Revista Andina de Educación was first published in 2018 to deliver a service to the community of Educational researchers that did not exist until then. It constituted a basis for scientific debate and dissemination in Education.

 

Code of ethics

Revista Andina de Educación adheres to the standards of good editorial conduct of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

 

Ethical practices for authors

  • The works sent to the review should be original and without any type of alteration.
  • Do not simultaneously submit the same article for evaluation in several reviews.
  • Always give credit to the people who have contributed to carrying out your research.
  • Explicitly declare that there are no conflicts of interest that could have influenced the obtained results.
  • Your academic literature review is always current and relevant, taking into account different knowledge streams.
  • Deliver texts that comply with the established publication norms.
  • Promptly collaborate with reviewers’ corrections and suggestions.

The responsibility for the content of the articles published in Revista Andina de Educación exclusively lies with the authors.

 

Ethical practices for peer-reviewers

  • Perform a critical, honest, constructive, unbiased review that guarantees the research article's academic quality.
  • Immediately notify if, for some reason, you cannot evaluate the article, either because it is not in your field of expertise or because you cannot comply with the evaluation report delivery within the established timeframe.
  • Always maintain confidentiality concerning the authorship of the article to review.
  • Evaluation reports are delivered in the established revision template and substantiate the evaluations that have led you to your decision.
  • Precisely indicate the bibliographical references of fundamental works that the author has possibly forgotten.
  • Inform the editors of any similarity between the research article and other published works.

The evaluation is always carried out anonymously. If for any reason, the author’s identity, institutional affiliations, or any other information has been compromised that puts the document’s anonymity at risk, the reviewer should immediately notify the editors.

 

Editors commitment

  • Evaluate the articles based on the content’s academic merit without discrimination with regards to the author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin, nationality, or political opinion.
  • During the whole process, the confidentiality of authors, articles, and reviewers is maintained.
  • Editors are the most responsible for meeting deadlines for revision and publication of accepted works.
  • Guarantee the selection of the most qualified reviewers to issue an academic, critical, and expert evaluation of the work that is as unbiased as possible.

 

Digital preservation policies

Revista Andina de Educación establishes two means of preserving its publications:

  • Internally: through the university’s centralized storage system, that is updated twice a year
  • Institutional preservation: all the articles of the review are archived in the University’s institutional repository. Link: Repositorio UASB

 

Self-archiving policies

The Andean Journal of Education allows self-archiving in institutional, thematic repositories or personal web pages of articles published in their editorial version (post-print) at the time of publication.

 

Interoperability protocol

LThe Andean Journal of Education incorporates the OAI-PMH interoperability protocol to allow its contents to be collected by other distribution systems, such as digital repositories and harvesters.

Anti-plagiarism policy

In order to guarantee the originality of the articles that reach the journal, all of them are analyzed by the Urkund software, which makes it possible to prevent plagiarism and guarantee that the works received are unpublished.
