ABOUT THE JOURNAL

Focus and scope

"Estoa. Revista de la Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Cuenca" is a scientific publication, edited by the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Cuenca, with semi-annual periodicity and open access, arbitrated by peer review (double blind) guaranteeing an objective, impartial and transparent review process, which allows the publication to be included in databases, repositories and international reference indexes.

The journal's main objective is to disseminate the knowledge generated in the field of urban environment, from the research generated in architecture, building, urban design, infrastructure and urban planning. In other words, all fields from the architectural to the urban. This accepts articles that are products of original and unpublished research, in the languages of Spanish and English. It is aimed at researchers, academics, and professionals in the journal's area of specialization.

The journal is published in two versions: printed (ISSN: 1390-7263) and electronic (e-ISSN: 1390-9274), each work being identified with a DOI (Digital Object Identifier System).

Types of articles that

"Estoa. Revista de la Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Cuenca" keeps the call for permanent articles open. The editorial process begins once the author has sent all the documents in the format requested by the journal, through its digital content manager Open Journal Systems OJS.

All works must be original, the product of research and subject to the IMRYD method. All articles received must be between 5000 and 6000 words long, including notes, abstract, bibliography (from the last 5 years) and illustrative elements which must be subject to the editorial rules and template designed by the journal. The documents that are received are:

  • Original research articles: it is the article that presents the most recent findings of an investigation in a detailed way, they can be partial or final results obtained from the investigation.
  • Review article: is an article that systematizes the state of the art of a topic in the field of the journal in order to account for and trends in development.
  • Case studies: is the article that describes the observed results of a particular case.
  • Methodological article: article presenting new methodologies, discussions (critical analysis), explanations or modifications to existing methods.

 Peer review process

The original documents received, after passing the assessment of relevance are sent to external peer review. The editor in chief assigns the blind peers specialists in the field of equal or greater academic training than the author.

Double-blind evaluation is a process in which the anonymity of reviewers (peers) and authors is preserved. This process determines whether the article has sufficient quality content to be published and the result contemplates the approved possibility to publish, approved with revisions or rejection of the manuscript.

The author is allowed to suggest experts in the field who could review the manuscript, but this does not mean that Estoa Magazine is obliged to send the document to these reviewers. In case that the evaluator assigned by the editor is unable to conduct the evaluation for any reason, he or she may suggest an evaluator and this may be considered as long as it meets the requirements of the Estoa Journal.

All the mentioned stages may be followed by the author, after entering his manuscript in the Open Journal System, operated by the journal. The opinion of the reviewers is not appealable. Estoa does not charge article processing charges (APCs) to authors.

 Frequency of publication

Estoa Journal publishes two issues each year on a semi-annual basis, corresponding to the months of January and July.

"Estoa. Revista de la Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Cuenca" is an open-access serial publication completely free of charge for all users. The editorial team manages the entry of its content in catalogues, digital repositories, tables of electronic content in order to reuse and self-archive their articles. For this reason "Estoa" is included in DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journal) and is licensed under Creative Commons 4.0 Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 License. "Esota" only reserves the right to publish the documents.

Documents published in "Estoa" are subject to the following conditions.

The University of Cuenca, as an editing entity, reserves the copyright of the published documents, while consenting and favoring their reuse through the Creative Commons Attribution-No-Commercial-No Derivative Work 4.0 Ecuador license, so that it is possible to copy, use, dissemination, transmission and public exposure provided that:

The authorship and original sources are cited (name of the publication, publisher, URL and DOI)
Are not used for commercial or profit purposes.
It refers to the validity and details of this Creative Commons license.
Full text, metadata and article citations can be tracked and accessed with permission. Our open social policy also allows the readability of files and their metadata, enabling interoperability under the open data and open source OAI-PMH protocol. The files of the complete publications, as well as their segmentation by articles, are available in PDF and the editorial team works to include the XML format JATS and HTML.

Each article published by "Estoa" boasts a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).

In relation to self-archiving, authors are allowed to reuse published articles. In other words, the post-print can be archived as long as it is not pre-archived.

Readers' rights

The contents of "Estoa" are presented in open format and readers have the right to access them free of charge from the moment they are published. Our journal does not charge the reader.

Publication stored by third parties

"Estoa. Revista de la Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Cuenca" (Estoa. Journal of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Cuenca) collaborates in ensuring that the documents it publishes are stored on reliable bases (such as Dialnet or the university repository of the University of Cuenca), after publication.

 Archived

"Estoa" uses different national and international databases to host the documents it publishes and/or its bibliographic references. Some noteworthy databases are: Dialnet, Latindex, REDIB, SciELO, MIAR, ERIH PLUS, ZBD, Ulrich's, Avery Index, CARHUS PLUS+, ProQuest, Emerging Source Citation Index (ESCI-Clarivate Analytics). The information security and safeguarding systems and protocols of the University of Cuenca (Ecuador) guarantee its digital archiving.

Code of ethics

"Estoa" is a journal that aspires to maximum editorial correctness, so it is based on the ethical standards of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), to codify the commitments of editors, reviewers and authors. Anti-plagiarism policy

All the manuscripts received by "Estoa" are revised based on the anti-plagiarism policies that ensure the originality of the articles.

The editor, authors and reviewers must follow the international ethical standards defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), in order to avoid cases of:

  1. Artificial processing, adulteration or negligence in the provision of data.
  2. Plagiarism (including self-plagiarism).
  3. Duplicate, redundant or fragmented publication.
  4. Negligence in the provision of references to reference sources.
  5. Use of content without permission or unjustifiably.
  6. Usurpation of collective authorship.
  7. Alterations of authorship.
  8. Conflict of interest not declared or undisclosed.
  9. Other causes that will arise during the process of elaboration of the document and its publication

The journal relies on digital tools (Urkund System that analyzes the complete texts in search of grammatical and orthographic coincidences) that detect any of these cases in the postulated articles, and it is the task of the editors and reviewers to watch over the originality and fidelity of the citation.
