The descriptive, non-experimental study, carried out with 156 children diagnosed with congenital cardiopathies, has the following clinical characteristics, 69.5 % of males with a hospital stay of more than 7 days in females with 56.4 %; and in males with 46.6 % referred to the intensive care unit of females 45.6 %; 36.4 % of males with persistent foramen ovale in females 36.8 % of females; 33.0 % of males presented persistent ductus arteriosus in females 36.8 %; 42.0 % of males reported moderate depression at one minute in females 60.3 % and 73.9 % of males showed severe depression at five minutes in females 86.8 %. It is concluded that congenital heart disease predominates in males. The most common anthropometric characteristics included short stature and weight less than 2500 grams; the most frequent clinical characteristics were hospital stay of more than seven days, persistent foramen ovale, persistent ductus arteriosus, moderate depression at one minute and severe depression at five minutes.
