GUILLERMO, Baño Cabezas Franklin. National and regional comparative analysis of reading competence in Ecuadorian students of General Basic Education, Sublevels Elementary and Middle School. RCUISRAEL [online]. 2024, vol.11, n.3, pp.53-70. ISSN 2631-2786. https://doi.org/10.35290/rcui.v11n3.2024.1129.
This article sought to address the reality of Ecuadorian education on reading competence in students of the Ecuadorian system. For this, the results of the tests applied at the national level by the National Institute of Educational Evaluation (INEVAL) and, at the regional level, the results of the tests of the Latin American Laboratory for Evaluation of the Quality of Education (LLECE) were used. in the area of Language and Literature oriented to the reading skills of the Elementary and Middle sublevels of Ecuadorian basic education. In addition, the study incorporated documentary research, the deductive method, the comparative level and the quantitative approach. According to the LLECE, for 2019, 74% of Basic High School students and 42% of Basic Elementary School students did not achieve reading proficiency. Based on the analysis, it was concluded that the results of the national evaluations did not present great advances. In the regional evaluations, Ecuador does not exceed the regional average and differed from the national measurements and the regional measurements (35.7% in Basic Elementary and 77.6% in Basic Middle). This could have been due to the complexity of the content, political reasons or management of standards different from those managed internationally.
