PARRAGA MACIAS, Vielka Marisol. Legalization of Euthanasia in Ecuador from a constitutional perspective. Revista San Gregorio [online]. 2025, vol.1, n.61, pp.94-102. ISSN 2528-7907. https://doi.org/10.36097/rsan.v1i61.3439.
The legal fight of Paola Roldán, who suffered from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, achieved that the Constitutional Court of Ecuador decriminalized euthanasia in the country on February 5, 2024. The objective of the investigation was to determine if the decision of the Constitutional Court is aligned with human rights precepts established in international instruments that require respect for life, human dignity and personal autonomy. A qualitative approach was applied, with documentary techniques with which updated bibliography and documentation was analyzed. The result was that the decriminalization of voluntary and voluntary active euthanasia is consistent with the exercise of the rights to life, a dignified life and the personal autonomy and free development of the personality of a person who does not overcome the incessant suffering due to a serious and incurable illness or a serious and irreversible injury.
Palabras clave : Euthanasia; human dignity; personal autonomy; free development of personality..
