This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and empathy in conflict resolution styles among high school students at the Centro de Bachillerato Tecnológico, Industrial y de Servicios No. 97 (CBTis 97) in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. A quantitative methodology with a cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational design was adopted. The study population consisted of 438 students, aged between 15 and 18 years (M = 16.6, SD = 0.93). The sample was selected through a non-probabilistic and intentional sampling method. For data collection, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the Basic Empathy Scale, and Conflictalk were used. The results revealed that 51.8% of participants had high levels of self-esteem, 38.8% had medium levels of empathy, and 73.1% had low levels in conflict resolution. Correlation analysis showed a significant relationship between higher self-esteem and affective empathy with a problem-focused (cooperative) conflict resolution style. In conclusion, it was found that levels of empathy and self-esteem are interrelated and significantly influence the conflict resolution styles adopted by students.
