GARCIA ELIZONDO, Eduardo. IMÁGENES EMANCIPADAS. Índex [online]. 2024, n.18, pp.56-78. ISSN 2477-9199.  https://doi.org/10.47456/sofia.v13i1.42857..

The present work proposes addressing the modern dimension of images in Walter Benjamin's criticism of aesthetics. Based on this, through a way of expository interpretation, we will analyze the rhetorical-aesthetic materiality of images, as it is considered in the essay “The Work of Art in the Age of Its Technological Reproducibility”: after the irruption of the postauratic arts and of the city presented as a stage for cinematographic art. We will conclude that, in the rhetorical-aesthetic reading of Benjaminian criticism, images are emancipated from the systematic aspirations corresponding both to aesthetic doctrines based on idealist categories and to the semiosis mathematicised in the instrumental form of the sign.

Palavras-chave : emancipated images; post-auratic arts; rhetorical materialism; aesthetics; criticism.
