PARRAGA BAZURTO, Karen María; HENRIQUEZ BASURTO, Valeria Alejandra; HENRIQUEZ BASURTO, Lorena Alexandra  y  ORDONEZ ANDRADE, Jorge Paul. The Impact of Informal Trade and Gender on the Relationship with the Metropolitan Police: Guayaquil Case, 2024. Revista Economía y Política [online]. 2026, n.43, pp.162-181.  Epub 30-Ene-2026. This study investigates the impact of gender on interactions between informal traders and the Metropolitan Police in Guayaquil in 2024. Employing a quantitative survey of 388 traders, it examines whether gender influences the treatment by police. Findings reveal no significant gender-based differences in treatment, challenging the notion that gender is a determinant factor in these interactions. However, the high incidence of negative incidents highlights underlying governance and human rights issues. The results contribute to the discourse on intervention policies, indicating that approaches should acknowledge the uniformity of challenges faced in informal trade without presuming gender-based differences.

Palabras clave : informal traders; gender; Guayaquil; metropolitan police; police treatment.
