The Ecuadorian Amazon region (EAR) harbors significant biodiversity and livestock production systems that stimulate the rural economy. However, few studies have conducted a comprehensive assessment of their sustainability. This study evaluates livestock systems in the Ecuadorian Amazon using the Capitals Theory methodology and the FAO's SAFA sustainability framework to develop sustainable proposals. Interviews were conducted with livestock producers in the provinces of Pastaza and Morona Santiago. Results revealed that in both locations, household heads were predominantly male, over 40 years old, members of their associations, had access to credit, and did not receive government subsidies. Families consisted of 3 to 4 members. El Triunfo exhibited higher educational levels, diversified cropping systems, dairy farming, and laying poultry production. In Pablo production, and integrated poultry-cavy fattening systems. Overall, El Triunfo achieved higher sustainability thresholds compared to the Pablo Sexto canton.
