Resumen

Pseudomonas are cosmopolitan organisms, and their impact on aquaculture is diverse. The pathogenicity of a Pseudomonas sp. strain isolated from a Penaeus vannamei larval shrimp production system was evaluated by intramuscular injection and immersion in 3.93 ± 0.26 g shrimp. The results of the pathogenic test showed that the average mortality after 72 hours post-infection (h.p.i.) in the injected animals was 68.95 ± 1.77%, compared to 64.44 ± 1.07% in the animals infected by immersion. Mortality in the control treatment ranged from 3% to 10%. Hepatopancreas histology showed a marked inflammatory response, granuloma formation, and hepatopancreatic cell necrosis. The Pseudomonas strain tested demonstrated high pathogenicity regardless of the infection vehicle used. These findings highlight the need to evaluate bacterial control strategies to optimize performance in controlled culture systems.
