Resumen

Influence of the use of black steel slag as coarse aggregate on concrete properties. RCTU [online]. 2024, vol.11, n.2, pp.16-25. ISSN 1390-7697.  https://doi.org/10.26423/rctu.v11i2.818.

One way to reduce the negative environmental impact of natural aggregate extraction is to use industrial waste as construction material. An example of this is black slag from electric arc furnaces, of which high quantities are stored in Cuba at the José Martí steel company, with no use value and with various possible applications in the construction industry. The research evaluated the influence of using these slags on the properties of portland cement concrete, as a partial or total replacement for conventional coarse aggregates. Concretes were designed with replacement percentages of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%, determining properties in the fresh and hardened state, comparing them with a standard concrete. It was shown that the properties of concretes with slags were similar or superior to those of the standard concrete, which provides reliability for their use.

Palabras clave : artificial aggregates; slag aggregates; compressive strength of concrete.
