Introduction: drug trafficking is a problem linked to the development of illegal drug markets, managed by criminal groups and with high levels of violence. This situation represents a challenge for Latin American states, which are responsible for implementing public security measures to tackle this criminal phenomenon. Objective: the article analyses the public security management of the provincial government of the Frente Progresista Cívico y Social (FPCyS) of Santa Fe during the period 2013-2015. Methodology: the research is based on a qualitative case study. Conclusion: the sustained increase in violence related to drug trafficking and the public outrage that this generated, led the FPCyS authorities to adopt a strategy characterised by the staging of government actions, the promotion of a police reform based on institutional patches and the delegation of security governance to the Provincial Police.
