Introduction: The study describes the way in which a group of people justified drug trafficking activities on the northern border of México, based on the theory of neutralization. Objective: the objective of the study is to describe the way in which a group of people justified their activities related to drug trafficking on the northern border of Mexico. Methodology: Using qualitative methodology, through semi-structured interviews with 9 men and 2 women deprived of liberty for drug trafficking in Sonora, México, the various neutralization techniques that they considered in their process of entering these activities were explored. Conclusions: The results show that denial of responsibility and discrediting justice bodies are the most commonly used justifications. It is concluded that neutralization is a contribution to the understanding of social control, crime incidence and recidivism.
