El objetivo de este trabajo fue resaltar la importancia de las abejas meliponas y la necesidad urgente de conservar sus hábitats, proponiendo una estrategia para la protección de la biodiversidad en el cantón Chone, provincia de Manabí. El enfoque de la investigación es cualitativo descriptivo de la biodiversidad y ecosistemas de las abejas meliponas. Se realizó una revisión documental de los datos climáticos y geográficos, además se analizó el marco legal normativo ambiental del Ecuador. Se aplicó la entrevista a los apicultores, agricultores y residentes locales, proporcionando información clave para comprender las percepciones y prácticas de conservación existentes. El muestreo utilizado fue intencional donde se seleccionó a 30 participantes con conocimientos sobre abejas meliponas, Se aplicó la matriz FODA para el diagnóstico del ecosistema melífero del cantón Chone. El estudio ha identificado áreas críticas para la biodiversidad en el cantón, destacando la necesidad de políticas y normativas específicas para conservar las abejas meliponas y sus hábitats. Las propuestas incluyen la protección de áreas melíferas, la educación comunitaria sobre la importancia de estas abejas y el monitoreo constante de los ecosistemas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Melipona bees are essential for pollination, a vital phenomenon for plant reproduction and crop production. The objective of this work is to highlight the importance of melipona bees and the urgent need to conserve their habitats, proposing a strategy for the protection of biodiversity in the Chone canton, Manabí. The research approach is qualitative descriptive of the biodiversity and ecosystems of melipona bees. A documentary review of climatic and geographical data was carried out, and the environmental regulatory legal framework of Ecuador was also analyzed. The interview was applied to beekeepers, farmers and local residents, providing key information to understand existing conservation perceptions and practices. The sampling used was intentional where 30 participants with knowledge about melipona bees were selected. The SWOT matrix was applied for the diagnosis of the honey ecosystem of the Chone canton. The study has identified critical areas for biodiversity in the Chone canton, highlighting the need for specific policies and regulations to conserve melipona bees and their habitats. The proposals include the protection of honey areas, community education about the importance of these bees and constant monitoring of ecosystems.]]></p></abstract>
