Diferentes factores de riesgo cobran cada vez más importancia en su etiología.  Objetivo:  El objetivo del presente estudio fue analizar los factores de riesgo más frecuentes de la parálisis cerebral y su asociación con la distribución topográfica en niños de 0 a 15 años de la ciudad de Barranquilla.  Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional analítico tipo encuesta transversal, con una muestra de 78 niños diagnosticados con parálisis cerebral en la ciudad de Barranquilla, donde se analizó la asociación de los factores de riesgo más frecuentes de esta condición con la distribución topográfica.  Resultados: Los factores de riesgo asociados a la parálisis cerebral en su orden de importancia fueron: hipoxia perinatal, antecedentes gestacionales de infecciones materna, traumas maternos y malformaciones congénitas. Hubo asociación estadísticamente significativa entre las semanas de gestación al nacer y el nivel de GMFCS (p&lt;0,05) y entre las semanas de gestación y la distribución topográfica.  Conclusiones: Los sujetos con mayor edad gestacional presentaron mayor compromiso a nivel de la función motora y una distribución topográfica más extensa.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction: Cerebral palsy is a health condition that seriously impacts the life condition of children and their family. Different risk factors are becoming increasingly important in its etiology.  Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the most frequent risk factors for cerebral palsy and their association with topographic distribution in children aged 0 to 15 years in the city of Barranquilla.  Methods: An analytical observational cross-sectional survey type study was conducted with a sample of 78 children diagnosed with cerebral palsy in the city of Barranquilla, where the association of the most frequent risk factors of this condition with the topographic distribution was analyzed.  Results: The risk factors associated with cerebral palsy in order of importance were: perinatal hypoxia, gestational history of maternal infections, maternal trauma and congenital malformations. There was statistically significant association between gestational weeks at birth and GMFCS level (p&lt;0.05) and between gestational weeks and topographic distribution.  Conclusions: Subjects with higher gestational age presented greater involvement at the level of motor function and a more extensive topographic distribution.]]></p></abstract>
