<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.senescyt.gob.ec/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2631-25812020000300015&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.senescyt.gob.ec/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2631-25812020000300015&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.senescyt.gob.ec/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2631-25812020000300015&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Introducción:  La Esclerosis Múltiple (EM) es una enfermedad desmielinizante, inflamatoria y neurodegenerativa del sistema nervioso central, en la que se han utilizado los Potenciales Evocados Multimodales Sensoriales (PEMS) para evaluar la integridad de las vías sensoriales, pero no se han considerado sus resultados para el diagnóstico de la enfermedad.  Objetivo:  evaluar la relación del puntaje global de PEMS con la magnitud de la discapacidad y la presencia de lesiones en las imágenes de resonancia magnética de pacientes con EM.  Métodos:  se estudiaron 35 pacientes con EM forma clínica recaída-remisión en el Centro Internacional de Restauración Neurológica. Se correlacionó el puntaje global de los PEMS con la escala de discapacidad de Kurtzke y con las lesiones encontradas en las imágenes de resonancia magnética.  Resultados:  se observó una correlación significativa entre el puntaje global y la escala de discapacidad (R=0.33, p&lt; 0.05), y entre este puntaje global y el número de niveles de lesiones detectadas en las imágenes de resonancia (R= 0.42, p&lt; 0.05).  Conclusiones:  La relación del puntaje global de los PEMS con las lesiones estructurales y el grado de discapacidad confirma su utilidad para el estudio de los pacientes con EM, aun cuando no forman parte de los criterios diagnósticos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction:  Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating, inflammatory and degenerative disease of the central nervous system. Multimodal sensory evoked potentials (MSEP) have been used to evaluate the integrity of sensory pathways but have not been globally considered as a tool to MS diagnose.  Objective:  to evaluate the relationship between the global score of MSEP with the degree of disability and the presence of structural lesions in MS patients.  Methods:  Thirty-five patients with relapsing-remitting MS were studied in the International Center for Neurological Restoration. The score of the MSEP was correlated to the disability scale of Kurtzke and the degree of lesions evidenced in magnetic resonance images.  Results:  A significant correlation was found between the global score and disability scale (R=0.33, p&lt;0.05) and between the global score and the number of lesion levels detected in the resonance images (R=0.42, p&lt; 0.05).  Conclusion:  The relationship between the global score of the MSEP and the structural lesions and degree of disability confirms its utility to study MS patients, even though they aren´t part of the diagnostic criteria.]]></p></abstract>
