</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
Abstract: Distributed energy resources (DERs) represent an effective alternative to reduce reliance on centralized electrical infrastructure. This work presents an optimization model using mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) to determine the optimal sizing of DERs integrating photovoltaic generation and battery energy storage, designed to operate both connected to the grid and autonomously. The results indicate that the grid-connected configuration requires 18 solar panels and 7 storage units, with a total cost of 8,830 USD, while the autonomous configuration demands 108 panels and 52 units, with a cost of 58,730 USD. This demonstrates that grid-connected DERs can offer lower investment costs, while autonomous configurations ensure a constant supply, promoting energy self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on the main grid. Moreover, the proposed approach is adaptable to various urban environments, where implementing DERs enables greater energy independence, alleviates the load on centralized infrastructure, and provides a reliable supply despite fluctuations in grid availability.
</abstract>
