Existen dentífricos orientados a resolver problemas bucodentales, uno de ellos es carbón activado, elemento que se popularizó últimamente debido a sus propiedades, sin embargo, considerar las indicaciones y contraindicaciones de este agregado es fundamental, lo que conlleva a analizar el efecto abrasivo de los diferentes tipos de dentífricos con carbón activado sobre la estructura dentaria y comparar la cantidad de abrasivo según la escala RDA de las pastas dentales mediante una revisión bibliográfica. La investigación es descriptiva, cualitativa. Se tomaron artículos de revistas indexadas en bases científicas como Google Scholar, Pubmed y Elsevier en inglés, portugués y español con vigencia desde 2017 hasta 2021, se enfocaron en el efecto abrasivo de las pastas dentales con carbón activado sobre los dientes, considerando los criterios de inclusión: artículos en inglés, español y portugués vigentes entre el año 2017 y 2021, pastas con carbón activado, abrasión de los dientes, revisiones sobre aclaramiento dental y como criterios de exclusión: artículos en otros idiomas que no sean los mencionados, literatura antigua, blanqueamiento dental con covarina, enjuague bucal con carbón activado, hilo dental, cepillos con carbón. Para complementar la investigación, se analizaron dentífricos clareadores disponibles en los supermercados de Ecuador, donde se valoró el tamaño de las partículas de las pastas dentales haciendo uso de la escala RDA. Se seleccionaron 13 artículos compatibles con el estudio, de los cuales 7 cumplen con los criterios de inclusión. Así mismo, 6 coinciden en que los dentífricos con carbón son abrasivos y 1 estudio lo contradice concluyendo que, carbón activado ha demostrado ser abrasivo con los tejidos dentarios ya que provoca desgastes a nivel del esmalte, dejándolo hipersensible.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract There are toothpastes oriented to solve oral and dental problems, one of them is activated charcoal, an element that has recently become popular due to its properties, however, it is essential to consider the indications and contraindications of this aggregate, which leads to analyze the abrasive effect of different types of toothpastes with activated charcoal on the tooth structure and compare the amount of abrasive according to the RDA scale of toothpastes by means of a bibliographic review. The research is descriptive, qualitative. Articles were taken from journals indexed in scientific bases such as Google Scholar, Pubmed and Elsevier in English, Portuguese and Spanish with validity from 2017 to 2021, focused on the abrasive effect of toothpastes with activated charcoal on teeth, considering the inclusion criteria: articles in English, Spanish and Portuguese in force between 2017 and 2021, toothpastes with activated charcoal, tooth abrasion, reviews on tooth whitening and exclusion criteria: articles in languages other than those mentioned, old literature, tooth whitening with covarine, mouthwash with activated charcoal, dental floss, brushes with charcoal. To complement the research, toothpastes available in supermarkets in Ecuador were analyzed, where the particle size of the toothpastes was evaluated using the RDA scale. Thirteen articles compatible with the study were selected, of which 7 met the inclusion criteria. Likewise, 6 agree that toothpastes with charcoal are abrasive and 1 study contradicts this, concluding that activated charcoal has been shown to be abrasive to dental tissues as it causes wear at the level of the enamel, leaving it hypersensitive.]]></p></abstract>
