El Virus del Papiloma Humano (VPH) se ha establecido como una de las infecciones más comunes de transmisión sexual, asociado a diversos tipos de cáncer, entre ellos el de cabeza y cuello con predilección hacia la mucosa de la lengua, garganta, amígdalas y paladar blando, afectando tanto a hombres como a mujeres. Existe un elevado número de pacientes que viven con cáncer oral en todo el mundo. En el presente trabajo se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica a partir del año 2002 hasta el 2021, en las principales bases de datos: Scielo, European Journal of Oral Sciences y otros; también, de páginas oficiales en el área de la salud, tales como: la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS), Asociación Dental Americana (ADA) y otras. El objetivo de esta investigación es realizar una revisión bibliográfica sobre el Virus del Papiloma Humano para relacionarlo con el cáncer orofaríngeo. Este estudio de tipo descriptivo concluye que se asocia al Virus del Papiloma Humano con lesiones malignas de la cavidad oral.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract. Human Papillomavirus has been established as one of the most common sexually transmitted infections, associated with various types of cancer, including head and neck cancer, affecting men and women&#8217;s mucosa of the tongue, throat, tonsils, and soft palate. Affecting men as well as women. With a high number of patients living with oral cancer throughout the world. A bibliographic search was carried out from 2002 to 2021, taking main databases such as: Scielo, European Journal of Oral Sciences and others; also, official pages in health area, such as: The World Health Organization (WHO), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), American Dental Association (ADA), among others. The objective of this research is to carry out a bibliographic review on the Human Papilloma Virus to relate it to oropharyngeal cancer. The descriptive study concludes that the human papillomavirus is a predisposing factor associated with oral cancer.]]></p></abstract>
