Este estudio analiza la biodiversidad y distribución de comunidades de macroinvertebrados bentónicos en cuatro islas del Archipiélago de Jambelí. Se establecieron muestreos en tres zonas, utilizando metodologías estandarizadas. Se identificaron 16 especies pertenecientes a 14 familias distribuidas en cuatro filos, siendo Mollusca el más representativo. Los índices ecológicos indicaron biodiversidad moderada y contaminación media, con valores de Shannon-Wiener entre 1 y 2 Bits/ind y índice de Pielou más equitativo en Costa Rica y San Gregorio. El índice trófico FFG indicó una base trófica estable, mientas que AMBI reflejó una ligera perturbación ambiental debido a la presencia de especies tolerantes a la contaminación. El análisis estadístico indicó diferencias considerables en diversidad y calidad de agua (ANOVA, p &lt; 0.05), mientras que Chi cuadrado mostró un porcentaje mayor de colectores en Costa Rica, sugiriendo acumulación de materia orgánica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Benthic macroinvertebrates are key indicators for assessing water quality. This study analyzes the biodiversity and distribution of benthic macroinvertebrate communities on four islands of the Jambelí Archipelago. Sampling was established in three zones, using standardized methodologies. Sixteen species belonging to 14 families distributed in four phyla were identified, Mollusca being the most representative. Ecological indices indicated moderate biodiversity and medium contamination, with Shannon-Wiener values between 1 and 2 Bits/ind and a more equitable Pielou index in Costa Rica and San Gregorio. The FFG trophic index indicated a stable trophic base, while AMBI reflected a slight environmental disturbance due to the presence of pollution-tolerant species. Statistical analysis indicated considerable differences in diversity and water quality (ANOVA, p &lt; 0.05), while Chi-square showed a higher percentage of collectors in Costa Rica, suggesting accumulation of organic matter.]]></p></abstract>
