Un factor causal es la inercia terapéutica, definida como el retraso para iniciar o intensificar la terapia cuando no se han cumplido los objetivos del tratamiento glucémico. El objetivo de este estudio fue comparar la inercia terapéutica en Diabetes mellitus tipo 2, entre médicos de atención primaria y endocrinólogos, así como identificar oportunidades para fortalecer la atención de diabetes en atención primaria. El método utilizado fue de tipo descriptivo, una revisión teórica con enfoque documental bibliográfico, mediante la búsqueda en la base de datos electrónica de PubMed. Se utilizaron criterios de inclusión y exclusión para la elegibilidad de la bibliografía, al final se analizó un total de 45 publicaciones que cumplieron con los criterios de selección. Los resultados reflejan que la intensificación tardía del tratamiento no se observa exclusivamente en la atención primaria, sino también en el ámbito de los especialistas en diabetes. Se concluye que son necesarias nuevas estrategias educativas para ayudar a los médicos a intensificar oportunamente el tratamiento cuando no se cumplen los objetivos glucémicos, con el fin de prevenir la progresión de la enfermedad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Good early glycemic control leads to better clinical outcomes, including a reduction in long-term microvascular complications. However, there has been no improvement in achieving glycosylated hemoglobin targets over the past decade globally. A causal factor is therapeutic inertia, defined as a delay in initiating or intensifying therapy when glycemic treatment goals have not been met. The objective of this study was to compare therapeutic inertia in type 2 diabetes mellitus among primary care physicians and endocrinologists, as well as identify opportunities to strengthen diabetes care in primary care. The method used was descriptive, a theoretical review with a bibliographic documentary approach, by searching the PubMed electronic database. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used for bibliography eligibility; in the end, a total of 45 publications that met the selection criteria were analyzed. The results show that late intensification of treatment is not observed exclusively in primary care but also in the setting of diabetes specialists. It is concluded that new educational strategies are needed to help clinicians timely intensify treatment when glycemic targets are not met to prevent disease progression.]]></p></abstract>
