La principal aportación de este estudio es la aplicación del control predictivo de modelos (MPC) al sistema de alimentación de balastos electrónicos mediante un inversor monofásico de puente completo de 50 kHz. El objetivo es regular la corriente de arco a través de la lámpara de descarga para generar UV-C a 253,7 nm, mejorando la intensidad de radiación y preservando la vida útil de la lámpara, con especial énfasis en la consecución de formas de onda sinusoidales de alta calidad y la minimización de la distorsión armónica total (THD). Este método aborda retos clave como las variaciones de corriente, que repercuten negativamente en la longevidad de las lámparas, la consistencia de la radiación ultravioleta y la fiabilidad general del sistema. Al garantizar una regulación precisa de la corriente, el método propuesto mejora la eficacia de la desinfección del agua, evita la supervivencia de microorganismos nocivos y reduce las pérdidas de energía y el sobrecalentamiento. Se utilizan herramientas MATLAB para evaluar el rendimiento del sistema basado en MPC y compararlo con el método de control proporcional-integral (PI) convencional, verificando así la eficacia de la estrategia de control propuesta. Los resultados indican que la técnica de control predictivo mantiene la corriente sinusoidal con un 2.21 % de THD, un 65 % menos que el control PI convencional (6.00 % de THD). Además, el MPC rechaza las perturbaciones de carga en 0.001 s, un 50 % más que el control PI (0.002 s), y sigue la señal de referencia con un error en estado estacionario inferior al 0.5 %. Estos aspectos ponen de relieve lo bien que el control predictivo de modelos consigue un funcionamiento estable y eficaz de la lámpara de descarga.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: This paper suggests an advanced control approach for enhancing the efficiency of Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) water sterilization systems. The main contribution of this work is the application of the model predictive control (MPC) in the power supply system for electronic ballasts using a 50 kHz single-phase full-bridge inverter, for the purpose of regulating the arc current through the discharge lamp to generate UV-C at 253.7 nm, improving radiation intensity and preserving the lifespan of a lamp, with particular attention given to achieving high-quality sinusoidal waveforms and minimizing total harmonic distortion (THD). This method solves severe problems like current oscillations, which adversely affect lamp life ultraviolet radiation stability, and the system stability as a whole. In achieving proper current regulation, the proposed approach increases water disinfection efficiency, inhibits survival of pathogenic microorganisms, and minimizes power loss and overheat. The MPC-based system performance is validated by making use of MATLAB tools and compared with the standard Proportional-Integral (PI) control scheme thus confirming the efficiency of the proposed control scheme. The results indicate that the predictive control technique maintains the sinusoidal current with 2.21 % THD, 65 % reduced compared to conventional PI control (6.00 % THD). Further, MPC rejects the load disturbances within 0.001 s, 50 % better compared to PI control (0.002 s), and tracks the reference signal with a steady-state error of less than 0.5 %. These are aspects of how model predictive control guarantees stable and efficient discharge lamp operation. This technique improves UV-C sterilizer reliability, lifetime, and disinfection efficiency.]]></p></abstract>
