Esta evaluación es más necesaria cuando la carretera atraviesa una topografía montañosa, dado que su geometría tiene más limitaciones. Las ecuaciones de predicción se obtienen en base a datos de velocidades recolectadas in situ y éstas son relacionadas con el diseño geométrico de la carretera. A pesar de que existen muchas calibraciones a nivel mundial, aún no se ha hecho para el contexto ecuatoriano. Por lo tanto, esta investigación tuvo por objetivo calibrar ecuaciones de velocidad de operación en carreteras rurales montañosas de dos carriles. Para ello se seleccionó una ruta montañosa del cantón Loja (Ecuador), la cual fue recorrida con 16 vehículos livianos. Su velocidad fue registrada a lo largo de todo el recorrido mediante el equipo Video VBOX Lite. Se calibraron ecuaciones para las curvas circulares horizontales y las entre-tangencias horizontales. De todas las variables analizadas, el radio de la curva circular, la longitud de la entre-tangencia horizontal y la pendiente longitudinal de la carretera fueron estadísticamente significativas para la velocidad de operación al 95% de confiabilidad. Este trabajo, además de presentar ecuaciones para Ecuador, también extiende el conocimiento en la influencia que tiene la pendiente longitudinal sobre la velocidad de operación. El uso de estas ecuaciones puede llevar a reducir la probabilidad de accidentes de tránsito en este tipo de carreteras.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The operating speed equations on two-lane rural roads are used mainly to evaluate the road safety that is offered to drivers of light vehicles. This evaluation is more necessary when the road is placed in a mountainous topography because its geometry has more limitations. The prediction equations are based on data speed collected in-situ and these ones are related to the geometric design of the road. Although there are many calibrations worldwide, it has not yet been done for the Ecuadorian context. Therefore, this research aimed to calibrate equations of operating speed in mountainous two-lane rural roads. For this, a mountainous route of the Loja canton (Ecuador) was selected, which was traveled with 16 light vehicles. Its speed was recorded throughout the entire journey through the Video VBOX Lite equipment. For horizontal circular curves and horizontal tangent, equations were calibrated. Of all the variables analyzed, the circular curve radii, the tangent length and the longitudinal slope of the road were statistically significant for the operating speed at 95% reliability. This work, in addition to presenting equations for Ecuador, also extends knowledge about the influence of the longitudinal slope on the operating speed. Using these equations can be carried out to reduce the probability of traffic accidents on this type of road.]]></p></abstract>
