Abstract

PROCEL NIAMA, Cristina Alessandra; GRANIZO LARA, Lilian Verónica  and  SANTOS PAZOS, Diego Armando. Caracterización del estado de salud mental general en conductores profesionales de la sierra centro ecuatoriana. Rev Eug Esp [online]. 2023, vol.17, n.2, pp.78-88. ISSN 2661-6742.  https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.37135/ee.04.17.09.

A descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational study was carried out in order to characterize the state of mental health in a group of individuals from the central Ecuadorian Highlands. The studied variables were somatic symptoms, anxiety and insomnia, social dysfunction, and severe depression. The sample consisted of 301 taxi drivers from the Chimborazo province, selected by a non-probabilistic test for convenience. The self-administered Goldberg Health Questionnaire (GHQ28) was applied. The age of the patient and the total score of each by points were associated. However, there was not enough empirical evidence (p > 0.05) to affirm that the sociodemographic characteristics: origin, residence, cohabitation, ethnicity, educational level, marital status, religion and having children were associated with having new-onset mental health problems. This last variable was higher in women than in men, while the tenure of chronic problems was similar in both sexes.

Keywords : Mental Health; Anxiety; Depression.
