MONTALVO NIETO, Daniela Estefanía e JARAMILLO ZAMBRANO, Ana Elizabeth. Habilidades sociales y autoconcepto en adolescentes durante el aislamiento social por pandemia de COVID-19. Rev Eug Esp [online]. 2022, vol.16, n.3, pp.47-57. ISSN 2661-6742. https://doi.org/10.37135/ee.04.15.06.
Prolonged isolation because of the COVID-19 pandemic generated changes in behavior to safeguard individual and family mental health. The objective of the research was to determine the state of the correlation between self-concept and social skills in adolescents studying at the Camilo Ponce Enríquez Educational Unit, Quito, Ecuador, during the second semester of 2020. This was non-experimental, correlational, and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. 176 students from that educational environment participated, whose ages ranged between 15 and 18 years. Their legal guardians issued informed consent and were assessed considering the study variables by the staff of the Department of Student Counseling through the application of the respective psychometric instruments. 114 of the participants (64.77%) were female and 85.22% lived in urban areas. All dimensions of self-concept had a statistically significant (.<0.05) and positive relationship with social skills. It was also observed between the types of social skills and self-concept, which was established by applying the Pearson correlation coefficient.
