Abstract
URIBE HINCAPIE, Richard Alonso; GARCIA CASTRO, Juan Fernando and MONTOYA MARIN, Juan Eliseo. Towards an Ethics of Teachers and Education: Dialogue, Critique and Creativity. Revista Andina de Educación [online]. 2024, vol.7, n.2, 000726. ISSN 2631-2816. https://doi.org/10.32719/26312816.2024.7.2.6.
Higher education, as well as education in Colombia, Latin America and the world are currently defined by administrative and financial emphasis, rather than humanistic and pedagogical perspectives. This comes with a risk: treating education as a product to be sold, rather than a service to be offered. While education does contribute to a nation´s GDP, it does not always lead to the expected outcomes of human development, quality of life and overall well-being of humanity. It is in this domain of diverse interests and constant uncertainties, in which the teacher and education itself state their ethical responsibility. This analysis is the result of two qualitative research studies with a hermeneutical approach, using data gathering techniques such as interviews, observation, and focus groups. The main objective of the study was to reflect on what we call the teacher’s ethics and its relationship with dialogue, critique, and creativity, understood as constituent values of the teacher. These values provide ethical, political and aesthetic tools to face ever changing and unexpected realities.
Keywords : education; ethics; dialogue; critique; creativity; social change.
