Abstract

REZA FLORES, Ricardo Alberto et al. Middle school students and use of social networks: learning and knowledge, emotions and entertainment. RCUISRAEL [online]. 2023, vol.10, n.3, pp.13-35.  Epub Dec 10, 2023. ISSN 2631-2786.  https://doi.org/10.35290/rcui.v10n3.2023.860.

The main objective of this research was to assess the codifications of what social networks represent when used by high school students from the areas of learning and knowledge, emotions and entertainment. The approach of the study is quantitative descriptive cross-sectional, in which high school students (N=560) from Mexico City participated by means of a diagnostic instrument; a strong internal consistency of the instrument was revealed, corroborated by Cronbach's Alpha. Non-parametric tests were performed and there were statistically significant differences (p < .05) between the variables analyzed. Students stated that including social networks to address school content can make the learning process more attractive; teachers in turn could implement these technological means to carry out classroom activities; the use of networks can cause different emotional states, which is closely linked to school performance; these cyberspaces are mainly used for leisure and entertainment, thanks to the dissemination of content in videos, images, etc. By way of conclusion, it was determined that it is essential to provide literacy on the ethical and responsible management of social networks so that students can benefit from their attributes inside and outside the classroom.
