Abstract

ROCHA SANTOS, Maíra; FORTE GOMES, Marília Miranda  and  BARROSO AZEVEDO MOURA, Leides. Aging in Brazil: the rights of the older adults and education. RCUISRAEL [online]. 2023, vol.10, n.1, pp.13-25.  Epub Apr 10, 2023. ISSN 2631-2786.  https://doi.org/10.35290/rcui.v10n1.2023.646.

The demographic transition process has generated questions about population aging, as well as drawing the attention of international organizations and public policy managers to generate programs that address this reality. The older adults, as a new social protagonist, questions the need to go through a “successful aging process”. In this way, educational opportunities become liberating options for this group, helping them to remain active, productive, and inserted in society. This work aimed to map the occurrence of educational policies, through the textual analysis of legal frameworks and formal documents related to the Elderly and Education in Brazil. As a result, the generic orientation of the Ministry of Education in relation to the group of older adults was observed, since the educational premises of the National Education Plan only mention Youth and Adults. This is evidenced by the lack of a coherent didactic project aimed specifically at the group. The negative image of the elderly in Brazil, who lost their role after so many years of illiteracy, can be institutionalized.
