Language is a fundamental aspect of communication, which evolves and adapts to the changes of human thought. The church also employs language to deliver its message, hence the way it commu- nicates with its followers determines its effectiveness. Pope Francis is the first Latin American Pope in history and his election in 2013 meant a unprecedented fact that changed multiple paradigms in the pontificate. Therefore, its necessary to describe the use of digital language in Pope Francis’ teaching.
This is carried out through a study of content analysis under a documentary methodology. The result unveils new expressions used by the pontiff according to the recipients of the message, the symbolic structure of the terms used and their meanings.
