Innovation is important for the economic and social dynamics and has been placed as a key factor both at company level and at the country level. Studies are presented that show how innovation has given the nature of sustainability to the productive units at any level of aggregation.

In a topic that occupies the interest of both developed and developing countries, the role of international organizations in offering a theoretical and conceptual platform, as well as ma- king a statistical database available, is highlighted.
