Abstract

GARCIA LOMAS, Vanessa Alejandra. Analysis of the loan portfolio of Ecuadorian public banks (2008-2017). RCUISRAEL [online]. 2018, vol.5, n.3, pp.37-50.  Epub Dec 06, 2018. ISSN 2631-2786.  https://doi.org/10.35290/rcui.v5n3.2018.76.

The increase in the credit portfolio in the various public banks in Ecuador has had an impact on the increase in credit risk. The weaknesses in collection procedures, due to the lack of instruments to guarantee recovery, trigger a weakness at the time of controlling the rates of this type of risk in time, with the negative consequence of the increase in delinquency in the credit portfolio. In this sense, the work presented a formal analysis of the delinquency of Ecuador’s public bank loans in the period from 2008 to 2017 with a global perspective, emphasizing environmental variables and financial indicators that reflect the possible problems of the public credit portfolio. Panel data were validated from the four largest financial institutions of the Public Bank (BanEcuador, Banco de Desarrollo del Ecuador, Banco del Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social and Corporación Financiera Nacional). It is concluded that there are liquidity problems in this system evidenced through the systematic behavior of the variables that influence the determinants of late payment.
