Abstract

AULESTIA CALERO, Martín. The deactivation of the urban planning machine. For a true right to the city. Novasinergia [online]. 2023, vol.6, n.2, pp.6-22.  Epub July 14, 2023. ISSN 2631-2654.  https://doi.org/10.37135/ns.01.12.01.

Abstract: This article sustains a fundamental argument: any right to the city requires the recovery of the political capacity to decide the meaning, form, and foundation of cities, which are the proper enclosures in which modern humanity dwells. To this end, the article clarifies the relationship between the modern process of urbanization and the phenomena linked to industrialization and thematizes the capitalist conditioning imposed on the modern city. In this way, it brings to light that urbanism is a decisive quality of modernity insofar as it makes possible the spatial expression of all other specifically modern phenomena. It is then argued that modern urbanism is a veritable machine of social atomization that must be deactivated if a true "right to the city" is to be made possible.

Keywords : capitalism; right to the city; modernity; technology; urbanicism..
