Abstract

VIERA, Paulina  and  ACERO, Mirian. Design of a mortar from the characterization of lime produced and marketed by 5 suppliers in Ecuador. Novasinergia [online]. 2022, vol.5, n.2, pp.158-173.  Epub July 05, 2022. ISSN 2631-2654.  https://doi.org/10.37135/ns.01.10.09.

Little is known about the applications and use of hydrated lime currently produced in Ecuador. The present research focuses its study on 6 samples of hydrated lime marketed locally. Their performance was determined based on the national standard NTE INEN 488 in masonry mortars. These initial tests made it possible to identify the lime with which the mortar with the highest compressive strength is obtained. We worked on a mortar design that incorporates this lime and reaches the resistance established by the NTE INEN 2518 standard. A mortar of 3.5 MPa at 28 days was cataloged in the standard as a type O mortar for use in non-load-bearing masonry and plastering. These results are expected to contribute to the knowledge of Ecuadorian lime and facilitate its incorporation in the construction of local buildings.

Keywords : Artisanal lime; compressive strength; industrial lime; lime; lime mortar.
