SANTILLAN, Patricio et al. Evaluation of the concentration and spatial distribution of particulate material in the UNACH - Riobamba campuses. Novasinergia [online]. 2021, vol.4, n.2, pp.111-126.  Epub 01-Dez-2021. ISSN 2631-2654.  https://doi.org/10.37135/ns.01.08.07.

Abstract: The objective of this research was to carry out a comparative analysis of the levels of concentrations of Volatile and Sedimentable Particulate Material (PMV and PMS), in the three campuses of the National University of Chimborazo. PMV was measured with the DustTrak™ II equipment for 24 days and PMS was determined through a passive monitoring system. The characterization of metals associated with PM was by scattered X-ray photon spectroscopy (EDX). According to the Ecuadorian legislation and the WHO, the concentrations of PM2.5 in the monitoring stations do not exceed the maximum permissible limits. PM10 presented a mean value of 10 µg/m3, a maximum of 15 µg/m3 and a minimum of 6 µg/m3. The metals associated with PM are 11 elements of anthropogenic and natural origin, where the main responsible source is traffic, industry, construction, dust particles and ash. The spatial distribution of PM determined that the emission sources are on a local scale; with a critical radius of drag and deposition of 50 m. This shows that PM modeling, through GIS tools, provides favorable results to study the behavior of particles
