Abstract

RUIZ, Luis Bladismir  and  TINEO, Ambrosio. A review of traffic models using cellular automata. Novasinergia [online]. 2019, vol.2, n.2, pp.7-16.  Epub Dec 10, 2019. ISSN 2631-2654.  https://doi.org/10.37135/unach.ns.001.04.01.

Cellular automata are a mathematical model used to study and represent dynamic systems, suitable for modeling natural systems such as the evolution of viruses and bacteria, as well as the flow of gases, liquids and vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The first non-trivial probabilistic model was presented by Nagel and Schreckenberg (1992) and more and more researchers are adding to its application in daily life. This article shows a review of the behavior of vehicular flow for single and multi-lane roads, considering the modifications of the existing models and the changes in the way of driving in order to know the approach of the various researchers on the study of vehicular traffic. The study reveals that the vehicular flow adapts to the traffic conditions of the moment and that the model, by its property, allows modifying interaction rules and consider the road infrastructure for a lane model while multi-lane models are more complex.

Keywords : automata; vehicle flow; microscopic model; NaSch model; traffic models.
