Abstract

FLORES, Juan J.; CRUCHAGA, Marcela A.  and  SANTIANA, Cristian G.. Study of the dynamic behavior of a submerged buoy with a free surface under conditions of forced vibration. Novasinergia [online]. 2019, vol.2, n.1, pp.88-95.  Epub June 06, 2019. ISSN 2631-2654.  https://doi.org/10.37135/unach.ns.001.03.08.

This research dealt with an experimental study of the interaction between fluid and structure of a submerged buoy with free surface in vegetable oil. The assembly consisted of a wooden sphere submerged inside a tank of square section, this sphere was abode by different oscillation conditions and its movements were generated by a vibrating table. The main objective of this study was to determine the dynamic behavior of the submerged sphere, for this purpose a capture of image through a high-speed camera was used; in this way, the position of an object in each frame was obtained. In addition, the study of the free surface evolution, with and without the object, wase developed; the results showed varying amplitude values and imposed frequency, for a single filling height. For an imposed amplitude of 0.2 cm there were no difficulties regarding the registration through ultrasonic sensors; nevertheless, as the amplitude value increased, wave heights with high slopes and three-dimensional movements were recorded; this fact complicated the study. Subsequently, the effect of the buoy in the free surface was studied, it was observed that the greater the amplitude and the movement frequency, the greater the wave amplitude with the presence of the sphere. Finally, in the dynamic characterization of the system, flat movements were registered in most cases.
