Abstract

BUNAY, Pamela; PASTOR, Danilo; PAGUAY, Paúl  and  MORENO, Samuel. Analysis of the DIFFSERV architecture on MPLS networks for the provision of QoS in real-time applications (VoIP). Novasinergia [online]. 2019, vol.2, n.1, pp.33-40.  Epub June 06, 2019. ISSN 2631-2654.  https://doi.org/10.37135/unach.ns.001.03.04.

Currently IP networks need QoS for real time applications. However, the main limitation is that IP networks do not count with a mechanism to provide with it. In this study, we aimed to implement the DiffServ architecture over MPLS networks, with the purpose of improving the range of benefits provided to the networks, by supplying a differential treatment to real time traffic. In the analysis, a test environment was designed with three scenarios: IP networks, MPLS, and MPLS DiffServ networks. The tests were developed in GNS3 with the Dig-it 2.61 GUI 0.92 tool, to inject VoIP traffic and data using tags for proper identification. Each case was evaluated with three markers: delay, jitter and packet loss, using the Wireshark tool. The study determined an adequate VoIP service quality with the implementation of MPLS and DiffServ.
