In this article we compare the extent and quality of national agricultural statistics in Argentina with those of the United States. To do this, we compare the most recent census measurements of both countries from a multidimensional perspective that encompasses the type of data, its presentation, institutional statistical management and proximity to the FAO recommendations. We also evaluate the role that extra-census studies play in each case. We argue that US statistics are more comprehensive and actionable because they have a public policy construction objective. We also propose other hypotheses to explain this statistical inequality and an update schedule.
