Abstract
GONZALEZ RUGEL, José Luis. Schools of Thought in Project Management. The Literature Review. Podium [online]. 2023, n.43, pp.129-144. ISSN 2588-0969. https://doi.org/10.31095/podium.2023.43.8.
A recurring theme in project management research is the evolution of its research topics. Seminal work on this topic was done by Kloppenborg and Opfer (2002), Söderlund, (2002), Biedenbach and Müller (2011), and Turner et al. (2013). The purpose of this article is to present a review of the literature on the schools of thought of project management. Scientific papers from the SCOPUS, Web of Science (WOS), and Google Scholar databases, published in 1980-2022, were reviewed to identify the existing schools of thought to date and document the characteristics of each of them. Ten schools of thought were identified, representing a starting point for future research on project management phenomena and behaviors, aligned to one or a mix of schools of thought (Chadee et al., 2021).
