PIEDRAS, Pablo. Popular songs for an erotic icon of the people. Music in the films of Isabel Sarli and Armando Bó. Ñawi [online]. 2025, vol.9, n.1, pp.51-65. ISSN 2588-0934.  https://doi.org/10.37785/nw.v9n1.a3.

This essay examines the role that popular songs played in the cinematographic poetics of Armando Bó and Isabel Sarli. It is argued that the filmmaker's musical conception was fundamental to affectivize and enhance the erotic effects of a mise-en-scène organized on the basis of the diva’s body. It also studies how the pre-existing songs had the function of giving cohesion to stories that, over the years, became more and more digressive, fragmentary and insurrectionary. Finally, we analyze the case of La diosa impura (1963), a film scarcely recovered within the duo's filmography, in which we can verify the way in which Bó and Sarli were able to articulate a complex dialogue with the tradition of Latin American genre cinema.
