Abstract

ADER, Natalia Eva  and  CAR, Valeria. Between the edges. Towards a new typology of short series. Ñawi [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.1, pp.149-175. ISSN 2588-0934.  https://doi.org/10.37785/nw.v8n1.a9.

Web or short series are characterized by their instability, even in their name. They are not movies or television. How can we define them? Some research has provided characterizations, conventions that help recognize web series as a format. This article is part of a project called “Emerging formats. The web series and its narrative specificities”. First, we will seek to open the discussion and explore the narrative universe of short series, in order to make a conceptual theoretical contribution to the study of the format. The methodological approach is based on the analysis proposed by Francesco Casetti and Federico Di Chio. An analysis tool was designed on the basis of a corpus of 60 series to reveal the significant aspects of the narrative specificities of the format. In a complementary way, it is about making visible formats that from a territorial perspective can dispute spaces in the mainstream industry.

Keywords : Audiovisual narratives; seriality; short series; typologies, formats.
