Abstract

CAMPOS, Rafael de. The state of things. Notes on video essay in academic audiovisual research in Brazil. Ñawi [online]. 2023, vol.7, n.2, pp.35-50. ISSN 2588-0934.  https://doi.org/10.37785/nw.v7n2.a2.

The present work deals with the current situation of research on video essays in academic audiovisual studies in Brazil. Through an analysis of three of the main recent articles on this topic, we investigate the main ways in which Brazilian researchers have thought about video essayism in audiovisual studies. Based on the thinking of authors such as Catherine Grant, Walter Benjamin, Didi-Huberman and Paul Feyerabend, we will seek to contribute to the propositions of these researchers and help in the development of thinking about the possibilities of academic use of the video essay.

Keywords : Adorno; cinema; essay; Grant; methodology; semiotics.
