In this paper we want to analyze and contextualize the work and figure of the American artist Robert Smithson, creator who developed his work between the 60s and 70s of the last century. We fly over his biography, addressing basic concepts of his work, analyzing some of the sources in which it is nourished, and dealing with transversal problems of his time, related to art, society and culture. In addition, to exploring novel concepts such as entropy applied to the world of culture, and artistic manifestations such as Land Art and Earthworks, of which Smithson is a precursor.
