Abstract

COMBA GONZALEZ, Jairo Leonardo. The sacred form. Ancestral forms as a living expression in contemporary rituality. Ñawi [online]. 2018, vol.2, n.1, pp.79-100. ISSN 2588-0934.  https://doi.org/10.37785/nw.v2n1.a4.

This text reflects an approach to the use and signification of the form as a visual element, from a conception linked to the symbolic dimension of American indigenous thought and the logic of ritual. Participatory observation of ritual activities and ceremonies carried out on the initiative of groups and individuals related to Colombian indigenous traditions (mainly the Mhuysqa, from the central Colombian region) has allowed a contemporary contact with this ancestral perspective. It concludes with a reflection on the depth of the visual manifestations present in the context of the indigenous ritual, sometimes described as "la pinta", based on the private testimony of Martín Roa, a plastic artist born in Bogotá, a bearer of tradition indigenous Sikuani, settled in the eastern plains of Colombia, and who incorporates in its ritual work symbolic visual elements of this territory.

Keywords : Symbolic language; indigenous semiology; ancestral rituality; symbolic image; visual signs.
