Abstract

Intercultural bilingual education in Ecuador pretends to promote a dialogue of knowledge by applying a model that considers an individual as the curricular bases, the family, the community, the pedagogical, the territorial, the philosophical, and the anthropological model. The importance of the investigation sets on examining its concretion in the teaching-learning process in bilingual contexts and the principles that sustain it. In this way, the objective of this paper was to learn about the application of the stages of the methodological process of the Intercultural Bilingual Educational Model, and the contributions to construct interculturality, diversity, and dialogue of knowledge. This research was done under a qualitative approach with an ethnographic view, and it was supported by techniques such as observation, semi-structured interviews, and social mapping. The participants considered were Intercultural Bilingual teachers. The activities performed through intercultural learning environments and the construction of students’ knowledge based on local knowledge or ancestral wisdom in a contextualized way, to generate learning processes with cultural linguistic, territorial, and cognitive belonging, is highlighted. Besides, reference is made to the correct management of the principles, curricular bases, and strategies of the Intercultural Bilingual Educational Model, with the aim of contributing to the accomplishment of the statal policy on interculturality.
