Health care for people at reproductive ages is significant, as it maintains the productive capacity of populations and financially sustains their social security systems. The objective was to inquire about this care in Argentina in the 2005-2020 period by analyzing mortality trends. Particular emphasis was placed on estimating the relative proportion of preventable deaths in the total number of deaths counted annually, its composition according to specific causes and its dynamics according to sex. A quantitative and descriptive methodology was applied, based on the calculation of specific mortality rates among people aged 15-44 years, as well as joinpoint regression analysis to assess their temporal trend, based on official information. The results showed a predominance of preventable causes in the total number of deaths surveyed, but mostly in men (mainly avoidable by prevention). Among the latter, the avoidable mortality rate decreased significantly and in women it did not change. Likewise, significant reductions were observed in mortality rates from infectious and parasitic diseases, circulatory system diseases and accidents. In contrast, the mortality rates due to respiratory diseases, tumors (in women) and events of undetermined intent increased significantly.
